NEVADA RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2009 CULINARY EXCELLENCE AWARDS

October 2, 2009 — Las Vegas, NV — Highlighting the fact that restaurants truly are the cornerstones of their communities, Nevada’s culinary community came out in force Oct. 1 to help honor their peers at the Nevada Restaurant Association 2009 Culinary Excellence Awards Gala held at the M Resort.
“These awards are very important because we understand how crucial it is for all aspects of the industry to work together and to speak with a unified voice,” said NvRA President & CEO Katherine Jacobi.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize some of the most deserving individuals and companies. Every person who goes the extra mile for the restaurant industry is a winner. This year’s honorees are true examples of the dedication and spirit abundant in our industry.”
News Anchor Rachel Smith from Fox 5 served as the master of ceremony and Secretary of State Ross Miller presented awards to outstanding individuals in three categories. The winners of the 2009 Culinary Excellence Awards are:
• Restaurateur of the Year: Jim Rees, Hash House a Go Go. The Restaurateur of the Year recognizes an individual who operates an outstanding restaurant business, demonstrates community involvement and advance the industry as a whole.
• Allied/Vendor of the Year: Jennifer Mahar-Mulder, Meeting Planner Resources, LLC Allied of the Year recognizes a superior allied member- a vendor, supplier, or other related company - that goes above and beyond to provide superior services or products to restaurant members.
• Employee of the Year: Sheralyn Segura, Steiner’s – A Nevada Style Pub. The Employee of the Year recognizes an exceptional restaurant employee for his or her outstanding performance, attitude, motivation and dedication to the industry.
Also recognized were the state winners for the prestigious Restaurant Neighbor Award sponsored by the National Restaurant Association in partnership with American Express. Nevada’s Cornerstone Humanitarian Award went to Raja Majid of Origin India Restaurant. The Small Business Award was received by Steiner’s A Nevada Style Pub, and Le Cordon Bleu College received the award for outstanding community involvement. Micatrotto Restaurant Group received the Mid-size Business honors. The honors in the category of Large-size Business Award went to South Point Hotel and Casino.
