The Smith Center turns two

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors to the Southern Nevada community two years ago, forever changing the city’s cultural landscape as the community’s Heart of the Arts.
When The Smith Center opened, there were many dreams in place for the organization. One aspiration was to host the premiere of a national tour, and at the two-year mark, the Center is preparing to launch the Broadway blockbuster, Kinky Boots. A second goal for The Smith Center was to create a notable piece of work to share with the world. This April, The Smith Center will do just that with The Tempest, a co-production with American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) that is currently under development at The Smith Center. The Tempest features notable Las Vegas based entertainer, Teller, of the Penn & Teller duo.
From Broadway to ballet to classical, jazz and more, The Smith Center is committed to providing world-class entertainment for the community as well as a first-rate experience for the performers who call Las Vegas home for the evening or just a few hours. As a result, national performers are eager to visit time and again, and share with their performing friends that this stage is one they can’t miss while on the road.
Case in point: The Smith Center welcomes back in the next months many acts from its highly successful inaugural season, including Academy of St. Martin in the Fields with Joshua Bell (March 18), PFX – The Pink Floyd Experience (March 19), Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (March 22 & 23), Chris Botti (March 26), Diana Krall (April 9), Women Fully Clothed (April 11) and Lily Tomlin (May 11).
