Valley Hospital to Add Orthopedics Residency Program in 2012
For Immediate Release:
Valley Hospital has been approved for an orthopedic surgery residency by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). An orthopedic surgeon is a medical doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the musculoskeletal system, including injuries to the bones, joint, muscles, ligaments or tendons and conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis.

According to www.boneandjointburden.org, there will be an increased need for orthopedic surgeons that “will likely be intensified by current demographic trends, including the graying of the baby boomer population, the epidemic of morbid obesity and the higher recreational activity levels of our elderly population.”

Valley Hospital’s five-year orthopedic surgery program will begin July 1, 2012, under the supervision of program director Randall Yee, DO, a Las Vegas-based orthopedic surgeon with Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Yee completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Midwestern University in Illinois and a Fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine in California. He completed his medical internship at Botsford General Hospital in Michigan after graduating from University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic medicine in Kansas City, MO. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State

Currently, Valley Hospital has approximately 80 residents in the programs of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Traditional Internship, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Neurology, and offers a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine. The hospital established its graduate medical education residency program in 2006.
