At age 10, Victoria Mar failed her school vision test. "I was scared to death. I was in denial and made them retest me the next day. I failed again," says the Rhodes Ranch optometrist who graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. " My poor vision was all I knew, so I thought, This must be normal," she says. "I draw a lot of pleasure from my patients," she says, explaining her passion for keeping them in good health.
In her practice, Dr. Mar tries to help her patients understand how all aspects of their life can impact their vision, especially habits like smoking and not exercising. Seeing the number of patients with diabetes in Las Vegas steadily increasing, Dr. Mar encourages patients to take up an exercise routine and lead a healthier lifestyle. "Many don't see that what they do in their daily life will have consequences on their eyes,"she says. Dr. Mar leads by example; when she"s not chasing after her two young sons, she can be found running marathons.
