World-Class Offerings to Explore
For serious foodies and shoppers, there is no doubt that Las Vegas provides a total experience. Both activities developed in the city as a natural outgrowth of its success as the entertainment capital of the world. Every luxury hotel offers first-class restaurants as well as a range of upscale boutiques and services. The most important chefs in the world are all represented here, including Alain Ducasse, Wolfgang Puck, Joël Robuchon, Bobby Flay, Michael Mina, Emeril Lagasse and Alex Stratta to name just a few!

As an entertainment center, Las Vegas offers residents loads of culinary options, but there are also many great neighborhood spots where home-cooked food is served and buffets are still available. In this chapter, you’ll learn about the variety of dining and shopping experiences that await you in Las Vegas. In no time you’ll discover your favorite haunts to share with friends and family alike and discover the true diversity the city has to offer.

Your first few months exploring the Las Vegas dining scene might resemble the excursions of the city’s thousands of daily visitors. Understandably, you will want to sample the marquee dining establishments on the Las Vegas Strip as well as the more famous names off the Strip and beyond. You won’t be disappointed; these splashy venues offer amazing menus that can’t be found anywhere else while understated establishments provide regional delights. Following is a quick look at some of the major points of interest.

DINING ON THE STRIP
— THE FORUM SHOPS AT CAESARS PALACE
Tried-and-trusted establishments provide familiarity to new residents needing a good meal without the risk of leaving disappointed. Planet Hollywood is recognized to most as a dependable place to get an exotic salad and tasty burger, so the Las Vegas location is great for new residents seeking commonality. With the fun décor of movie memorabilia and props, Planet Hollywood is a great place to dine with family and share in the visual excitement.

The Palm Restaurant has survived more than 80 years in business only to increase in popularity and locations. If you are lucky, you have had the pleasure of eating satisfying dishes that reflect the best of Italian-American heritage previously at its other U.S. locations. If not, get acquainted with this branch of the revered New York eatery.

— THE VENETIAN
Bouchon at the Venetian
is the brainchild of chef Thomas Keller who used his memories of traveling through France to craft the striking restaurant located in the Venezia tower. Chef Thomas Keller was named “America’s Best Chef” by Time magazine and is the sole recipient of consecutive “Best Chef” awards from the prestigious James Beard Foundation. Dine on delicious authentic French bistro food in the beautiful main dining room or poolside in the garden.

— THEHotel at MANDALAY BAY
With a sweeping staircase, 24-foot chandelier and midcentury white-and-gold furniture, Mix is celebrated as an awe-inspiring dining experience. Bestowed the honor of “Best Restaurant” by the Travel + Leisure Design Awards in 2006, Mix has some of the city’s best views of the Strip. Open for dinner only, both contemporary and classic French and American dishes are served nightly, but it is suggested to have a reservation. Also inside Mandalay Bay is House of Blues Las Vegas, which dishes up Southern specialties with Cajun/Creole accented entrées served seven days a week plus a Gospel Brunch buffet on Sundays.

— THE PALAZZO
Table 10 is the pet project of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse. Born 20 years earlier at a modest table bearing the number 10 on the floor plan, the idea for this restaurant is one about exploring new and creative ideas. This casual, New Orleans–style eatery bears a market-fresh menu that utilizes locally grown products. The Food Bar presents Emeril’s trademark uninterrupted views of the kitchen.

— IMPERIAL PALACE HOTEL
The Hash House a Go Go is a San Diego, Calif., institution that has made its way to the Las Vegas Strip. Big portions of farm-fresh agriculture, locally produced meat and old recipes with a twist have been delighting diners for 10 years. Popular dishes include sage fried chicken and waffles and griddled meatloaf. Other Las Vegas locations include The Plaza and the M Hotel.

— MIRACLE MILE SHOPS AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD
Pampas Churrascaria Brazilian Grille can best be described as a South American barbecue. Fresh roasted meat skewers are carved to order tableside by waiters who circulate the room with various types of meat. The interesting food delivery frequently is enjoyed by small parties celebrating a special occasion. Bringing the “aloha spirit” to the Las Vegas dining scene is Cheeseburger Las Vegas. Various Hawaiian-style burgers and tropical drinks, typically not found on the mainland, overwhelm the menu for a scrumptious dining experience.

Motivated by the Professional Bull Riders World Finals held annually in Las Vegas, PBR Rock Bar and Grill seeks to give refuge to those looking for comfort food (think Doritos-crusted macaroni and cheese) while listening to all era’s of country and rock ’n’ roll music. The mechanical bull and live music gives PBR Rock Bar a style that patrons of all kinds will appreciate.

— MGM GRAND HOTEL & CASINO
One of the greatest features of a large Las Vegas–style resort hotel are the many fine dining restaurants at your disposal within arms’ reach. Such is the case with MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, which has more than half a dozen upscale eateries waiting to prove to new patrons why they continue to garner rave reviews. James Beard Award–winning chef Tom Colicchio has Craftsteak with its ideal of elevating the steakhouse concept by using small family farms and artisan producers to source seasonal ingredients. The result has been pure success with those who have experienced mouth-watering Kobe beef and specialties like veal, salmon, lobster and farmer’s market vegetables.
