Valley Hospital Opens 16-Bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

Valley Hospital opened a 16-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation unit on September 1, offering a multidisciplinary approach to help patients achieve return to their greatest level of independent living. This addition of rehabilitation services enhances the hospital’s neurological services program, which include certification as a Primary Stroke Center along with neurosurgical and interventional radiology services.
Special Features
- 16 private patient rooms
- Physical therapy gym featuring private treatment area, LiteGate ambulation system, ARJO Sara Plus, and related exercise equipment.
- Occupational therapy center (also known as Activities of Daily Living Center) designed to help patients regain functional independence in areas of self-care and activities of daily living. The ADL center features a fully-operational kitchen, laundry area and bathroom for real life simulation of the patient’s home setting.
- Speech therapy is equipped to use E-Swallow, an advanced neuromuscular electrical stimulation used in the treatment of dysphagia.
- Private dining/activity area.
Joseph Gnoyski, MD, Serves as Medical Director
The unit will be under the medical direction of Joseph Gnoyski, MD, a board-certified physiatrist, who has served in multiple leadership capacities in Southern Nevada, including positions as a rehabilitation director in hospital, skilled nursing and home health settings and participating in numerous hospital committees. Dr. Gnoyski’s areas of expertise include the management of musculoskeletal problems and neurological disorders. He can also provide cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Recently, Dr. Gnoyski earned national distinction by a Washington, D.C., consumer-based, nonprofit organization for being one of the "Top Doctors" in 2011. Locally, he was recognized by a physician and consumer-based survey, as one the "Top Docs" in Las Vegas for 2011 by Vegas Seven magazine.
Rehabilitation Services Team
Jim Scussel, administrative director of physical medicine and rehabilitation, oversees the multidisciplinary team who cares for the patients. Staff members are dedicated to the unit; they do not care for patients in other areas of the hospitals. Rounding out the rehabilitation team are nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, and a social worker.
