Sunrise Hospital and MountainView Hospital Stroke Programs Recognized by the American Stroke Association
For Immediate Release:
Two of the Sunrise Health Hospital’s Certified Stroke Centers—Sunrise Hospital and MountainView Hospital— have been recognized for high performance by the American Heart and American Stroke Associations.

Sunrise Hospital and the Nevada Neurosciences Institute (NNI) have received the 2011 American Heart/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. This is third consecutive year Sunrise and the NNI have been recognized at the gold level.

To receive this award, Sunrise Hospital achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all GWTG-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for 24 consecutive months and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with seven of 10 GWTG-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis and cholesterol reducing drugs, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.

MountainView Hospital has been recognized with the 2011 American Heart/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Silver Quality Achievement Award. MountainView Hospital achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all GWTG-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for 12-months.

“Meeting rigorous standards to provide timely, quality care when our patients need it most is a top priority for us. This award, in addition to being certified Primary Stroke Centers, makes both Sunrise and MountainView Hospitals stroke leaders in our community,” said Sylvia Young, President and CEO of Sunrise Health.

Both hospitals have also earned a Target stroke honor roll designation. This recognition is awarded for hospitals meeting a specific GWTG achievement level in addition to achieving IV rt-PA door-to-needle times 60 minutes or less in 50 percent or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients (minimum of six) during one calendar quarter. These awards recognize Sunrise and MountainView’s commitment and success in consistently implementing the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations for stroke patients.

Hospitals recognized in each category achieve at least 85 percent compliance to GWTG measures. Those achieving 85 percent compliance for 24 consecutive months receive the Gold Performance Achievement Award, with the Silver Performance Achievement Award going to those with 85 percent compliance for 12 consecutive months.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Scientific studies reveal that the Get With The Guidelines Program works for improved patient survival.
