Club Ride Commuter Services, administered by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), has added 18 new local employers in the first quarter of 2009 and has launched a merchant discount program that began on Wednesday, April 1.

Thanks to Club Ride’s new merchant discount program, Club Ride members who show their Club Ride cards at the time of purchase are eligible for discounts at a number of local businesses.

Members are eligible for $5 off any massage service at the Academy of Healing Arts, 10 percent off any car rental at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 20 percent off purchases at Jamba Juice, 10 percent off of parts, accessories and service at JT’s Bicycle and discounts on sandwiches at two Henderson Quiznos locations.

Club Ride is a free, employer-based program that encourages and helps commuters to find alternative ways to get to and from work. Alternative commute options include carpooling, walking, bicycling, motorcycles and transit.

By promoting these commute alternatives employers can help to reduce congestion, improve air quality, boost morale and increase available parking. These “greener” options for getting to and from work also help commuters save money on gas, vehicle upkeep and even auto insurance.

The newest employer partners of Club Ride are:

7-Eleven Corporate

Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP

CDW

Clark County District Court–Family Division

Clearwater Paper Corporation

Gold Coast Hotel & Casino

Hooters Casino Hotel

Kloehn LTD

By joining Club Ride, these employers commit to providing commute options programs at their worksites. “Club Ride is a free program that every employer in the area can take advantage of,” said RTC General Manager Jacob Snow. “We’ll come out, host events, match potential carpoolers and help employees get to work in the most sustainable and cost-efficient ways possible.” 600 S. Pamela’s design was selected as the best piece in an annual poster contest aimed at educating local children on the importance of creating a graffiti-free community. Pamela’s artwork will travel the valley’s streets on the RTC vehicle for one year to promote the anti-graffiti message. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will launch a new traffic information system designed to give drivers information before they encounter traffic tie-ups. Motorists can sign up to receive e-mail and text messages with information on traffic accidents, freeway closures, weather events and other issues that may impact drive times. Commuters who want to receive the messages may sign up on the RTC’s Web site, rtcsnv.com beginning on Thursday, March 12. There is no charge to enroll but a valid e-mail address is required.
The messages drivers will receive are similar to those posted on the RTC’s dynamic message signs on valley freeways. Subscribers will receive the e-mail and text message alerts following the posting of the messages on the dynamic message signs. The messages are posted when the RTC’s Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) technicians have visually confirmed the incident and determine that it may impact travel times. The messages will primarily cover incidents on I-15 between the 215 Bruce Woodbury Beltway and the Spaghetti Bowl and on I-515 between the Spaghetti Bowl and the Charleston Curve. Those are the areas where FAST has the greatest concentration of traffic cameras so they are able to visually confirm incidents. The system will eventually expand to include a greater section of I-15 and U.S. 95 as well as the 215.
Messages are posted during the times when the traffic management center is staffed, Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m
